Billing is managed by the academy’s primary owner. Team admins can run the academy day to day, but only the owner sees and changes the plan.
How your account starts: the 7-day preview
When you sign up and finish onboarding, your academy goes live immediately on its*.fayneos.com address with a 7-day preview. No card is required to start, and the preview is your trial.
During the preview you get the real product: you can build and brand your academy, edit lessons, generate a course with AI, connect a custom domain, and invite a small group of students to try it. A few depth features stay walled behind an “Unlock with Pro” prompt during the preview:
Custom sending domain
Sending email from your own domain unlocks on a paid plan.
API access
API keys and the API unlock on a paid plan.
Stripe Connect
Charging students for courses unlocks on a paid plan.
The preview is one per owner, ever. It runs for 7 days from when your academy is created, and your dashboard shows a countdown as the date approaches.
What happens when the preview ends
If you have not subscribed by the time the preview ends, your academy goes dormant. Your data is preserved in full. You can still log in, browse, preview your academy as a student, and reach billing, but editing, publishing, inviting, and AI are paused. To students, the academy shows a “temporarily unavailable” page. Subscribing at any point lifts everything instantly and drops you back into the editor with all your content intact.Subscribing to a paid plan
Fayne has three paid plans: Starter, Pro, and Scale. For a feature and limit comparison, see Plans and Limits. Scale is the plan that removes Fayne’s per-transaction fee on student payments you collect through Stripe Connect. You can subscribe from active preview or from dormant. The flow is the same:1
Open Settings > Billing
From your owner dashboard, go to Settings > Billing and choose to subscribe or upgrade.
2
Pick a plan and billing period
Choose Starter, Pro, or Scale, then choose monthly or annual billing. Annual is billed once per year.
3
Complete Stripe Checkout
You are sent to Stripe’s hosted checkout to enter your card and billing address. Stripe collects the address so tax (VAT where applicable) is calculated correctly, and EU business buyers can enter a VAT ID.
4
Land back in your academy
On success, your plan activates, every wall lifts, and you return to your academy.
Converting from preview to paid
When you subscribe during your preview, you are moved straight onto the plan you pick and charged at that point. You do not need to wait for the preview to end, and converting early is the way to unlock the walled features before your 7 days are up.Founding-member discount (ended)
The founding-member launch discount ran through June 30, 2026 and is now closed: new subscriptions are at standard pricing. If you subscribed during the founding window
If you subscribed during the founding window
Your discount continues as promised. On monthly plans it repeats for the first several months and then your plan reverts to the standard monthly price. On annual plans it applied to your first annual invoice, and renewals are at the standard annual price. Downgrading does not carry the founding discount forward.
Changing plans
Upgrading or switching period
If you are on a plan and want to move up (for example Pro to Scale) or switch between monthly and annual, Fayne updates your existing subscription in place. You do not go back through full checkout.Downgrading
Downgrading to a lower plan walks you through a short reconcile step first. Because plan limits are counted across all of the academies on your billing account, Fayne shows you anything that is over the lower plan’s limits, most importantly your published courses, and lets you choose which courses to keep published. Students and academies over the new limit are shown for your awareness but are never removed automatically: existing students keep access, and existing academies stay live. Once you confirm, Fayne unpublishes the courses you did not keep and switches your subscription to the lower plan.Managing billing in the Stripe portal
For payment method and invoice management, Settings > Billing opens the Stripe billing portal. There you can:Update your card
Change the payment method on file.
View invoices and receipts
Download past invoices and billing history.
Update billing details
Manage the billing address and tax details on your account.
Cancelling and resuming
You can cancel from Settings > Billing. Cancellation is scheduled for the end of your current billing period rather than taking effect immediately, so your academy stays active and paid through the date you already paid for. Fayne confirms the date access continues until. If you change your mind before that date, you can resume the subscription from the same screen and your plan continues uninterrupted, with no new charge until the next normal renewal.Cancellation is the standard way to stop paying. After the period ends without resuming, your academy moves to the locked, students-can’t-access state, but your content is preserved and resubscribing brings it back.
If a payment fails (past-due grace)
If a renewal payment fails, your subscription enters a past-due state. Fayne keeps your academy fully working during a 7-day grace period so a temporary card problem does not take your academy offline. Update your card in the Stripe portal within that window to settle the invoice and keep things running. If the invoice is still unpaid after the grace period, your academy moves to the locked state until billing is resolved.Fayne billing vs. Stripe Connect
These are two different things and it is worth keeping them straight:
A paid subscription is the prerequisite for connecting Stripe to charge students. Once you are on a paid plan, head to Stripe Connect to start selling.
